Asian Games 2018 Venue Renovation Keeps Progressing




The progress of Gelora Bung Karno main stadium renovation is estimated 31 percent completed where the stadium tribune was painted, and the tribune seats were installed in early March.






The biggest sports event in Asia is coming soon, and Indonesia has been selected to host the Asian Games 2018. The government and the private sector have to work hard and cooperate to make the multi-branch sports event that will be held on August 18 until September 2, 2018, successful.

However, the renovation of some sports venue is considered not ready yet. In Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) sports complex, the renovation progress has only reached 40 percent prior to the 2018 Asian Games.

The renovation progress of Istora Stadium and football field A, B, and C have reached 40 percent. The other stadiums´ renovation progress has only reached 30-35 percent. Gres.news had the chance to visit two sports facilities that are being renovated for the Asian Games 2018, which are Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) main stadium and GBK aquatic center.

The progress of Gelora Bung Karno main stadium renovation is estimated 31 percent completed where the stadium tribune was painted, and the tribune seats were installed in early March. Besides that, the grass hasn´t covered the whole football field in the stadium.

Meanwhile, the development GBK aquatic center that was claimed as the Asia’s biggest aquatic stadium with international standards and glorious design is now 40 percent completed. The aquatic center will be completely renovated. However, as one of six culturally protected buildings in GBK, the renovation has to be built on the foundations of culturally protected buildings and meet the standards set by FINA (the international swimming federation).

GBK aquatic center will be transformed into a semi-indoor building and covered by a gigantic roof that stretches up to 86 meters. The building will have a wave-shaped roof to represent a swimming sports facility. The gigantic roof requires high supports so the columns to support the roof will be big.

The renovation of GBK sports complex is divided into seven construction project packages with a total contract value worth Rp1.77 trillion. The venues construction and renovation in GBK sports complex consist of the renovation of GBK main stadium (AG-1) worth 770 billion with PT Adhi Karya as the project contractor that has an operations cooperation (KSO) with PT Penta Rekayasa.

Meanwhile, the development of GBK training facility (AG-2) worth Rp154 billion is handled by PT Pembangunan Perumahan. The renovation of aquatic stadium worth Rp275 billion is handled by PT Waskita Karya. The renovation of GBK hockey court, football field A/B/C and archery range (AG-4) worth 96 billion is handled by PT Jaya Konstruksi that has an operations cooperation with PT Yodha Karya.

Besides that, the renovation of GBK sports palace (AG-5) worth Rp132 billion is handled by PT Adhi Karya that has an operations cooperation with PT Atelir Enam. The renovation of GBK indoor and outdoor tennis center court (AG-6) worth Rp93 billion is handled by PT Brantas Abipraya, The renovation of GBK Madya Stadium, basketball court, baseball and softball field (AG-7) worth Rp213 billion is handled by PT Wijaya Karya that has an operations cooperation with PT Arkonin.

Although the progress of sports facilities renovation for the Asian Games 2018 in GBK sports complex has only reached 30-40 percent, the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry is confident that some of the venues will be completed in June 2017. (Edy Susanto/Gres.news)
