Erix Soekamti & DOES University: Creating Free University, Creative and Innovative Generation

Jakarta, 15 July 2017 – Celebrating the 52nd Anniversary, Telkom holds CSR Day on Wednesday and Thursday, July 12-13, 2017, on 09.00-17.00 WIB (West Indonesia Time-Zone) at Telkom Landmark Tower, Jakarta. CSR Day is an event held to celebrate the 52nd Anniversary of Telkom, and promote Telkom’s slogan "Telkom Indonesia, Untuk Indonesia" (Telkom Indonesia, For Indonesia). One of the programs in the CSR Day event is helping individuals and communities that are recognized for successfully improving themselves and inspire the environment around them.

One of the rewarded individuals is Erix Soekamti who’s known as a member of Endank Soekamti band from Yogyakarta. Erix Soekamti is well-known as a youth from Yogyakarta who has a high awareness to the improvement of education for children through the founding of DOES University. DOES University is a free school that has a goal to build innovative, creative, and independent individuals.

DOES University focuses on creating new animators, compositors, and 3D modeler. The studying process in DOES University uses a system where the students are quarantined for 6 months, and all of their needs (a place to live, studying equipment and media, and daily needs, such as foods and drinks while they’re studying) are borne by DOES University.

The funding for DOES University comes from Erix’s personal business, one of them is the sales of merchandise that are produced by his collaboration with craftsmen in Yogyakarta, such as silver rings, bags, caps, and many others. Therefore, he drives the economy around his environment.

Besides free of charges, DOES University will employ competent teachers. Some public figures have lectured the students in DOES University. The first generation of DOES University in 2015 is participated by ten students with different backgrounds, and they came from different regions, such as Yogyakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Balikpapan, Bali, and many others.

Erix commits that he wants to make the students of DOES University have a high competitiveness and create something for the world. Besides that, Erix also creates an education curriculum for one year. DOES University focuses on improving innovations and creativity. According to Erix, creativity brings a great impact on the community, environment, and the surrounding industries.

DOES University is using the social media as one of their creativity, and Erix Soekamti’s activity as a vlogger makes DOES University known to the public. Erix Soekamti’s effort to teach people without seeing their background makes him awarded in Telkom CSR Day 2017.
