Banten, August 13, 2017 - To show that the presence of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) give benefits to the nation, PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk (Telkom) and PT Krakatau Steel through BUMN Hadir untuk Negeri (SOEs for the Nation) program provide Rp2.34 billion assistance to people of Banten Province in the 5K healthy walk event in Serang, Sunday (13/8). The assistance was handed by SOE Minister Rini M. Soemarno who’s accompanied by President Director of Telkom Alex J. Sinaga and President Director of Krakatau Steel Mas Wigrantoro Roes Setiyadi.
In the charity event, Telkom handed the public facilities they’ve built, such as Broadband Learning Center (BLC), art gallery, and seven footbridges as the part of Telkom’s commitment to building 52 footbridges across Indonesia. Besides that, aligning with the social responsibility program called "Telkom Peduli Budaya" (Telkom Cares about Cultures), Telkom also helped to renovate streets to support easier access for the people of Badui and provided basic commodities. Therefore, the total aid given by Telkom for people of Banten reaches 1.52 billion.
SOE Minister Rini M. Soemarno appreciates all SOEs that implement the program simultaneously in 34 provinces across Indonesia, coinciding with the 72nd Anniversary of Indonesia. "I appreciate all SOEs that have synergized to be present for the people at the moment that commemorate the national independence. Through 'BUMN Hadir untuk Negeri' program, I hope the public could feel the positive impact of the SOEs’ presence that’s involved in the national development and contribute to the public social welfare and economic independence," Rini M. Soemarno said.
Separately, Banten Governor Wahidin Halim thanked for the assistance given to the community when organizing SOEs Healthy Walk event in Banten. "Representing the people of Banten, I want to thank the SOE Ministry for initiating ‘BUMN Hadir untuk Negeri’ program, and Telkom and Krakatau Steel that have provided assistance to people of Banten and the cultural communities here. We hope that the aid given to them could be used optimally and raise people’s spirit in improving the prosperity of all," Wahidin Halim said.
Followed by more than 20,000 participants, 5K Healthy Walk event is a part of #AyoBerjalan (Let’s Walk) movement that’s organized simultaneously by SOEs in 34 provinces across Indonesia. Next, #AyoBerjalan movement will be held routinely every 3 months.
With the theme of 17 Spirit of Independence, the healthy walk event is started with marching band performance and Indonesian culture fashion show. There were other activities called "Semarak Bendera" (Spirit of the Flag) and "Semarak Melodi Nusantara" (Spirit of Indonesian Melody) that involved the participants. Besides that, "Semarak Budaya Nusantara" (Spirit of Indonesian Culture) performance shows the art and cultures of Indonesia, especially from Banten Province. The event also presents "Semarak Kuliner" (Culinary Fest) that serves various food and beverages from Indonesia.
The event also shares 72 prizes for lucky participants. The event becomes more attractive with the performance of national celebrities who are famous among people of Banten. There were special booths that provide products of SOEs in Banten, and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) guided by SOEs.
Vice President Corporate Communication of Telkom, Arif Prabowo, explained that the sports event was held to commemorate the Independence Day of Indonesia, and aligns with the company’s initiative to inspire the public to improve their healthy lifestyle. "Telkom and all SOEs are trying to inspire the spirit of #AyoBerjalan movement to all people in Indonesia. Therefore, the health walk event in Banten is one of the right moments to raise the interests of Banten people to get used to walking," Arif said.
Arif added that the research results from some countries and experts become the basis of information that could make the public walk more. "According to the research result of experts from Stanford University about the habit of walking in some countries, Indonesian people are people who rarely walks with the average of 3,513 steps per day, under the average of 4,961 steps per day from 111 surveyed countries. Therefore, educating the people about the positive impact of walking is the responsibility of all parties, one of them is Telkom as an SOE in telecommunications sector with many digital products and services used by the public to make their daily activities easier. #AyoBerjalan movement has the slogan of Walk Joyfully Makes Body Healthy, and is an initiative to make Indonesian people walk more," Arif explained.
Arif Prabowo asserts that Telkom and PT Krakatau Steel have committed to synergize in implementing "BUMN Hadir untuk Negeri" program in Banten Province through four activities that commemorate and celebrate the 72nd Anniversary of Indonesia. "Besides 5K Healthy Walk, Telkom and PT Krakatau Steel will hold a flag ceremony to commemorate the 17th August Proclamation in Carita Beach. We also synergize to renovate the house of veterans through ‘Bedah Rumah Veteran’ program and inter-province students exchange program called ‘Siswa Mengenal Nusantara’ that was successfully held some time ago," Arif stated.
