Jakarta, 28 November 2017 – PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk (Telkom) strengthens TelkomGroup’s telecommunications infrastructure security in Bali Province after the Mt. Agung erupts and the status increases to Caution Level on Monday (27/11). Telkom takes the action to ensure the telecommunication services work normally, particularly in supporting disaster mitigation officers.
Telkom’s Director of Network & IT Solution, Zulhelfi Abidin, explained that TelkomGroup infrastructure and services are working normally until today. As a mitigation effort, TelkomGroup has prepared a contingency plan for all infrastructures and telecommunication services within the radius of 12km, 25km, 50km to 100km from Mt. Agung. Besides that, Telkom has also prepared 33 Private Automatic Branch Exchange (PABX) and 8 sites of Optical Line Termination (OLT) up to the radius of 100km from the location of Mt. Agung eruption. Meanwhile, on the cellular network, there are 79 Base Transceiver Stations (BTS)a and 36 sites of Telkomsel, Zulhelfi explained.
"To fulfill the disaster victims’ need for communications, TelkomGroup also provides free communication facilities in the evacuation posts. We hope the facilities can be used by the evacuees to communicate with the family and friends, and get the needed information, particularly the information that is related to the activity of Mt. Agung volcano," Zulhelfi said.
At the Karangasem and Klunkung Emergency Command Post, TelkomGroup provides BTS Combat Telkomsel, Access Point Wifi.id, and IndiHome service. Meanwhile, at Rendang Karangasem Mt. Agung Observation Post, Telkom provides IndiHome and Astinet services. At Bali Regional Police Disaster Contingency Post in Antiga and Bangli Command Post, TelkoGroup provides free call service to help the officers coordination in mitigating the eruption.
IndiHome service is also available in 7 evacuation posts, which are Tembok Post, Sidemen Post, Bondalem Post, Les Tejakula Post, Ulakan Manggis Post, Rendang Karangasem Post, and Sambirenteng Post. TelkomGroup also builds Services and Infrastructure Control Post in Semarapura PABX to monitor the telecommunication infrastructure and services.
Telkom involves more than 170 personnel who are ready to serve nationally in Jakarta, regionally in Surabaya, and on-site at Semarapura PABX. "More than 170 personnel are ready to monitor the telecommunications services, both fixed broadband and cellular, so the public communication services are under control," Zulhelfi asserted.
With intensive monitoring and securing, TelkomGroup hopes they can help the coordination of authorized parties and officers to minimize the disaster impact and fulfill the need for communication services of the locals who are affected by the eruption of Mt. Agung.
