Jokowi Endorses Regulation on Special Economic Zones

JAKARTA, GRES.NEWS - President Joko Widodo has endorsed the Government Regulation No. 96/2015 on Facilities and Accommodations at Special Economic Zones (KEK) on 21 December 2015.

With the regulation, the government hopes to bolster investments in Special Economic Zones, which in turn will support the national economy of the region where the zones are sited. The regulation is also expected to increase employment.

In Special Economic Zones investors will enjoy facilities connected with tax, customs and excise, goods distribution, labor, immigrations, land and permits.

Meanwhile, the business who can enjoy said facilities are both businesses that fall are key business activities for the respective Special Economic Zone and also non-key business activities.

"The key business activities in a Special Economic Zone, as mentioned in Article 3 letter a, are determined by the National Council of the Special Economic Zone, with considerations from the minister or related institutional head," according to Article 4 Verse (1,2) of the Government Regulation No. 96/2015, quoted by, Monday (11/1).

In the manpower sector, the regulation stipulates that businesses at Special Economic Zones who plan to employ a foreign worker must submit an expatriate employment plan (RPTKA) and work permits ( IMTA) to the appointed ministry or governmental institution.
