Balongan Refinery (ANTARA)
JAKARTA, GRES.NEWS - Balongan VI refinery in Indramayu, West Java needs more base materials because crude oil supply from domestic fields is depleting. The refinery is now looking for crude oil supply from abroad. Despite this, Balongan refinery is the main fuel supplier for strategic regions like Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, Bekasi (Jabotabek) and its surrounding areas.
Balongan VI refinery is PT Pertamina’s sixth refinery. The refinery is located in Sukareja Village, Balongan District, Indramayu Regency, West Java. Balongan VI refinery has been operated since 1994 in Balongan, Mundu, and Salamdarma.
The base materials that are refined in Balongan VI refinery are crude oil from oil wells in Duri Riau (80% feed) and Minas Dumai (20% feed). The refinery also refines 18 Million Metric Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMSCFD) natural gas from Jatibarang gas field.
Balongan VI refinery is designed to refine crude oil from domestic oil wells, not crude oil from abroad. However, the refinery needs more crude oil supply as Duri oil field produce less crude oil. Therefore, Pertamina is looking for crude oil supply from abroad.
The main business activity of Balongan Vi refinery is prioritized to refine crude oil into oil-based fuel (BBM), special fuel (BBK), non-BBM products, and petrochemicals. Balongan VI refinery is capable of producing gasoline, kerosene, industrial diesel fuel, propylene, LPG, decant oil, and fuel oil.
Balongan VI refinery is expected to fulfill the needs for fuel supply in strategic regions like Jakarta and its surrounding areas, which are known as business and administration center.
Balongan Refinery is designed to supply oil-based fuel (BBM) to Jakarta and West Java. Until today, Balongan VI refinery maintains the stability of fuel supply in Jakarta and its surrounding areas. Back then, Plaju refinery supplies fuel to Jakarta. However, the location of Plaju refinery is too far, and the fuel had to be carried by ships and faced many obstacles. Now, the existence of Balongan refinery can supply fuel to Jakarta through a pipeline.
As the main fuel supplier for strategic regions in Indonesia, Balongan VI refinery has been enacted as the national vital object. "Balongan VI refinery has been enacted as the national vital object," General Manager of Balongan VI Refinery, Afdal Martha, said.
Balongan VI refinery was inaugurated by President Soeharto in 1995. The refinery is capable of producing 125,000 barrel of oil per day (bopd). Besides producing oil-based fuel (BBM), Balongan VI refinery produces other valuable products like kerosene, industrial diesel fuel, propylene, LPG, and decant oil. Lately, the refinery produces avtur and supply them to the Aircraft Fuel Depot (DPPU) in Husein Sastranegara, Bandung.
"We have the vision to turn Balongan VI refinery into the best refinery in Asia Pacific in 2025," Afdal said.
