KPK Investigates Potential Corruption in Bengkalis Multiyears Road Project

JAKARTA, GRES.NEWS – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a search in the office of Bengkalis Regent. KPK Vice Chairman, Saut Situmorang, said the search is related to an investigation into a road project.

According to him, the investigation has ran for three days and suspects have been named. "The suspects from Bengkalis regency are Hobby Siregar and M Nasir," Saut said, Wednesday (9/8).

KPK spokesperson Yuyuk Andriati Iskak revealed that the searches began since Monday (7/8) in several locations in Bengkalis, Riau. However, KPK is not willing to provide further details on the investigation, only adding that M Nasir was the Head of Bengkalis Public Works Office.

"For the interest of this investigation, we cannot reveal further information regarding the case yet," Yuyuk yet.

Meanwhile, Bengkalis Government Head of Public Relations, Johansyah Syafri, confirmed that the anti-graft body conducted searches in Bengkalis, namely at the Bengkalis Public Works Office, the office of the Bengkalis Government General Division Head and the office of the Bengkalis regent.

"It is important to clarify that this is related to multi-years road project, so the project did not involve the current regent (Amril Mukminin)," he said, Wednesday (9/8). (dtc/mfb)
