"With the progress showed by Telegram, done by the Communications and Informatics Ministry and Telegram team. Today, Telegram’s website is opened again so the public can access and use the website of Telegram again," Rudiantara said in a press conference at the Communications and Informatics Ministry.
The press conference was attended by the Communications and Informatics Ministry’s Director General of Informatics Application, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, and Coordinator of Trust+ team, Taruli. Previously, the Communications and Informatics Ministry decided to block an instant message service with the paper plane logo on Friday (14/7).
The Ministry asked all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to block the access to 11 Domain Name System (DNS) of Telegram. The 11 DNS of Telegram consist of t.me, telegram.me, telegram.org, core.telegram.org, desktop.telegram.org, macos.telegram.org, web.telegram.org, venus.web.telegram.org, pluto.web.telegram.org, flora.web.telegram.org, and flora-1.web.telegram.org.
Telegram's website couldn’t be accessed after the government blocked it, but the application was still accessible.
The Communications and Informatics Ministry explained they had to block Telegram because there were many channels that contain radicalism and terrorism propaganda, hate speech, disturbing images, and many other contents that violate the law in Indonesia.
Responding to the issue, CEO of Telegram Pavel Durov visited Indonesia, and he agreed to eliminate all negative contents on his website. Therefore, the website of Telegram can be accessed now. (dtc/mag)
