JAKARTA, GRES.NEWS – The Jakarta Government has sent a letter to the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs, and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry to revoke the moratorium on the reclamation of Island C and D.

"We have sent a letter to the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs, and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. We are now waiting for their response letter," said Djarot, acting Jakarta Governor, Saturday (26/8).

Djarot argued that it would be such a waste if the government could not use the islands. "The islands are made and the Jakarta government have obtained the required certificates [to use the islands]," he said.

Djarot explained that the Jakarta government would prioritize the islands for environment purposes and for local fishermen. "We will also build a good port there. We will build a traditional fishermen kampong and manage the environment. Those are our focus," Djarot said.

Djarot further argued that other cities around the globe are not against reclamation projects.

Meanwhile, the Jakarta Government Environment Impact Management Office, Andono, said the Jakarta government has revised the Environmental Impact Analysis (Amdal) permit, a move they hope can convince the Ministry of Environment and Forestry to revoke the moratorium. (dtc/rm)
