President Joko Widodo (ANTARA)
JAKARTA, GRES.NEWS – President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo asserts that he won’t let any party weaken the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Jokowi stated that KPK’s role to eradicate corruption, as mandated by the law, must be strengthened.
I have to assert that I won’t let KPK get weakened. Therefore, we have to support KPK together," said the President after he inaugurated Kertosono Mojokerto Section II and III Jombang-Mojokerto Barat toll road at Mojokerto toll gate, Mojokerto Regency, East Java, Sunday (10/9), as quoted by setkab.go.id.
Jokowi added that KPK is independent in delivering its duty and using its authority. Therefore, it’s unquestionable that people trust the institution.
"KPK as an institution that people trust, very reliable, have to be supported by us. It’s a must, we have to strengthen (KPK) to eradicate corruption faster," he said.
Jokowi said that corruption is an extraordinary crime that needs to be eradicated. "I have to remind everyone that corruption is an extraordinary crime. Therefore, we have to eradicate it. We have to fight corruption," he said firmly.
Meanwhile, member of Special Committee on Inquiry Rights against KPK, Henry Yosodiningrat, declines that he recommended for KPK suspension. "I am anti-corruption, as an activist that supports the founding of KPK and Anti-Corruption Law, I want clean and influential KPK, not KPK that’s dirty with blackmail, oppression, and abuse of power. I want KPK that has a goal that aligns with the spirit of reformation formulated by the administration and the House in arranging Law on KPK and revision of Anti-Corruption Law," Henry said in a press release received by gres.news, Monday (11/9).
He said that journalists didn’t write down some of his statements, and it made people think that he wants KPK to be suspended. "There is an unwritten statement, which is ‘corruption eradication must go on’, while KPK is suspended to re-organize KPK and follow the spirit of reformation. Law enforcement, corruption eradication continues and handled by the police and prosecutors for the meantime," Henry asserted.
"I am sad with the accusations against me about my statement to suspend KPK for the meantime. On top of that, people accuse me of ‘defending corruptors, ’ and they think that I want to weaken KPK," he said. (mag)
