JAKARTA, GRES.NEWS - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has called for all ministers, related institutions and governors to take necessary measures to anticipate droughts in several regions.
According to him, several regions are already experiencing a severe drought, with no rain pouring over their for 60 straight days. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) estimates the dry season wil end in October or November 2017. "Short measures would be enough. I want ‘supply drops’ of clean water for villagers living in areas hit by drought," the President said, Jakarta, Tuesday (12/9).
President Jokowi added that paddy fields also need water. According to him, Indonesia has been building a lot of dams and water basins to anticipate such need.
He also instructed monitoring to keep food prices stable.
"I remind you all to never be careless, and prevent forest and land fires at peatlands, such as those that occurred in 2015," Jokowi said, quoted by setkab.go.id. (rm)
