The anti-graft commission (KPK) will present numerous experts to face the pretrial pleaded by Setya Novanto. The law experts that will be presented by KPK are experts on crimes and state administration.

"There will be experts on criminal law, experts on law of procedure who understand about the crimes and the law of criminal procedures. Then, experts on state administration will look into the state financial aspects because the state suffers financial losses in this case," said KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah at KPK Headquarters, Jakarta, Wednesday (20/9).

In the continuation pretrial, KPK will answer Novanto’s proposal delivered by his lawyer.

"We will deliver it clearly, strongly, and of course it’s the answer to the pretrial. We believe the legal aspects, and the judge will also believe it and it will be supported by a verification process in several days starting next Monday," Febri said.

Novanto’s lawyer, Agus Trianto, said that his client was named as a suspect since July 17, 2017. On 18th of July, Novanto received a notification letter to open an investigation (SPDP).

Based on the information, Agus considers there’s no investigation process that’s done together with a suspect naming. He considers that KPK has violated the standard operating procedures (SOP) of an investigation.

"We keep reminding them that the pretrial process only exists on a formal level so it mustn’t touch the main subject of the case as it will be brought to the anti-corruption trial process," Febri responded. (dtc/mfb)
