Telkom Awards 52 Regional Governments with Smart City Readiness 2017
JAKARTA, GRES.NEWS – To accelerate digital transformation in the administration sector, PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk (Telkom) continues to develop Smart City Nusantara (SCN) program, which is utilizing information and communications technology (ICT) in developing and managing cities to improve the performance of regional governments. As an effort to improve the program implementation, Telkom gives Smart City Readiness accolade to 52 regional governments that have implemented or ready to implement Smart City.
The accolades were symbolically given by Telkom’s Director of Enterprise & Business Service, Dian Rachmawan, to three representative regional governments, which are Sulawesi Selatan Province, Tangerang Selatan City, and Tanah Bumbu Regency. The accolades were given at Tangerang Selatan City Government Office, Monday (30/10). Meanwhile, the accolades for the other 49 regional governments will be given directly by the other leaders of Telkom in many regions in Indonesia. The awards are certificates and free one-year Smart City service, which consist of tourism information app, e-reporting app, and WiFi managed service for 10 access points that are equipped with WiFi managed content.
"Smart City Readiness award is a form of appreciation for regional governments in implementing Smart City concept and supporting the development of broadband cities in Indonesia," Dian Rachmawan said while she was giving the accolades.
"A research result of the World Bank shows that in developing countries like Indonesia, every increasing broadband penetration by 10% would increase the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 1.38%," Dian added.
The Communications and Informatics Ministry has initiated 100 Smart City Movement where 25 Telkom Smart Cities have been established in 2017. Telkom, a digital telecommunications state-owned enterprise (SOE), also contributes to the program by accelerating the program through the initiation of Smart City Nusantara program since 2016. Smart City concept implementation is expected to make regional governments capable of providing sustainable services, be more effective, and improving the public pleasure and security and prioritizing local wisdom.
The accolade for 52 regional governments is given to 25 cities and regency administration that are selected in the 100 Smart City Movement initiated by the Communications and Informatics Ministry in 2017. Meanwhile, the other 27 regional governments are given the accolade based on the criteria of Telkom Smart City with the parameter of Connectivity, Content and Collaboration readiness.
Smart City Readiness award is a part of Smart City Nusantara program, which is a form of Telkom’s commitment to improve the performance of regional governments through ICT implementation. Smart City Nusantara program is also expected to accelerate regional development and develop provinces/cities/regencies that are sustainable in economy, social and environment. (mag)
