JAKARTA, GRES.NEWS – National Police Chief of Crimes Unit, Ari Dono Sukmanto, has admitted that police detectives are having difficulty solving the case that saw Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) senior investigator Novel Baswedan thrown by acid on the face.

According to him, hit and run modus operandi are hard and may even take years to solve.
"This is what I have to tell you (reporters, red). Hit and run cases are relatively hard. It has only been a few years [since the attack]. In some cases, it took four years to find the attacker," Ari said, Jakarta, Wednesday (Nov.1).

Detectives have questioned dozens of witnesses, but bore no fruit. "This is the reason the progress has been sluggish. We are still having difficulty finding the person responsible. We will follow up any information from witnesses," he said.

On 11 April 2017, Novel was attacked on the face from behind with acid on the face as he was on his way home from a Subuh Prayer in a mosque near his home in Kelapa Gading, Jakarta.
Novel was flown to Singapore for treatment.

Novel, his family and organizations supporting him are pessimistic that the police can solve the case. They demand President Joko Widodo to form a joint fact-finding team to help the police solve the case. (dtc/rm)
