JAKARTA, GRES.NEWS – The Jakarta Corruption Court has sentenced Miryam S Haryani to five years in prison and fined her Rp200 million, replaceable with 3 months additional imprisonment, for making false testimonies in the e-KTP (electronic resident card) court trials.

The panel of judges, led by judge Frangky Tambuwun, Monday (Nov.13), denied Miryam’s argument that she was pressured by KPK (Corruption Eradiation Commission) investigators during her questioning. The judges ruled that she was given the opportunity to read and correct, and place her initials and sign the document containing her statements concerning the case.

The forensic psychologist also testified that there are no indications of pressure by investigators in the video showing Miryam’s interrogation.

The panel of judges also denied Miryam’s claim that she did not receive any money from Sugiharto as it has been proven in court that her staff received money to be brought to her home.

"Miryam’s statement contradicts the statements from Irman, Sugiharto, Yosep Sumartono and Vidi Gunawan. Miryam received money four times, US$500,000; US$100,000; Rp5 billion and Rp1 billion, which were brought to her house in Tanjung Barat, and another Rp1 billion (US$ 73,773.5) was handed over by Yosep to her personal assistant. Hence, the defendant’s denial is legally groundless," said judge Frangky. (dtc/rm)
