JAKARTA, GRES.NEWS - Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (ICJR) researcher Dirga Sustira said the ruling handed down by the Jakarta Corruption Court to order PT Duta Graha Indah (DGI), which has change its name to PT Nusa Konstruksi Enjiniring (NKE), to replace the money it embezzled marks a historical moment in a corruption case.
"It is a historical ruling. This is the first ruling against a corporation that was indicted by KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) to replace the money the corporation embezzled to the government," he said to gres.news, Monday (Dec.4).
The ruling, handed down on Monday, 27 November 2017, punished PT DGI to pay Rp14.4 billion to replace the money it illegaly took in the project to procure health equipment for the hospital in Universitas Udayana in 2009 and 2010, and Rp33.4 billion for the money it embezzled in the project to build a multi-function building for the Sumatera Selatan Provincial Government.
This ruling was part of the ruling for PT DGI former president director Dudung Purwadi.
ICJR, Dirga said, appreciates the ruling. "There was a similar ruling against a corporation, but the case was filed by a prosecutor’s office, not KPK. The ruling was against PT Giri Jaladhi Wana," Dirga said.
"Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (ICJR) supports the ruling and says the ruling should be a reference for other corruption cases that involve a corporation as it would be an effective way to prevent and eradication corruption," Dirga said. (mag)
