JAKARTA, GRES.NEWS – The Ministry of Transportation predicts the New Year Counterflow (arus balik) period will happen on 1 January 2018 as Indonesians must return to work on 2 January 2018.
PT. Jasa Marga esimates there will be 104,000 traveling back to Jakarta on said date, up 3.11 percent from 88,527 last year.
Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi urges travelers to return before 1 January 2018 to prevent major traffic jams.
"We urge people to not return on 1 January 2018 or celebrate New Year in Jakarta," he said, Friday (29/12).
Budi also urges people to travel safely. "Make sure that your vehicle is in good condition, make sure that you are in good health and rest whenever you feel tired. Don’t force yourself," he said, quoted by dephub.go.id.
The Ministry of Transportation has coordinated with traffic police to prepare for the expected major traffic jams, such as counterflows and road limitations. (rm)
