JAKARTA, GRES.NEWS – Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators questioned former Coordinating Minster for the Economy, Prof Dorodjatun Kuntjoro-Jakti, as a witness in the BLBI (Bank Indonesia Liquidity Support) corruption.

"He was questioned as a witnessed in the BLBI corruption for suspect SAT (Syafruddin Arsyad Temenggung)," said Febri Diansyah, Director of Public Relations Bureau, KPK, Tuesday (Jan.2).

Dorodjatun arrived at KPK’s headquarters at 10.00 Jakarta Time (WIB), but did not comment much to reporters.

In the case, Syafruddin Arsyad Temenggung has been declared a suspect. He was Director of the National Banking Restructuring Agency (BPPN).

The case began in May 2002 when Syafruddin gave the green light to the Financial Sector Policies Committee (KKSK) to file litigation against debtors to convert their debt, so that it can be use to fund the banks’ restructuring program.

The total debt reached Rp4.8 trillion.

However, Syafruddin Arsyad Temenggung, later issued clearance letters, including to Sjamsul Nursalim, who was the controlling shareholder of Bank Dagang Nasional Indonesia (BDNI), that declared the debtors had repaid their debt to BPPN.

Dorodjatun was the Coordinating Minister for the Economy on 9 August 2001-20 October 2004. (dtc/rm)
