JAKARTA, GRES.NEWS – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has underlined that candidates of the upcoming 2018 Regional Elections may still be called for questioning or even arrested, saying that law enforcement is a separate matter from elections.

"KPK and the National Police will not hesitate to arrest corrupt officials," said Laode M Syarif, Vice Chairman, KPK, Saturday (6/1).

KPK said this in response to the suggestion from National Police chief Tito Karnavian to postpone summoning of witnesses who are candidates in the 2018 Regional Elections.

He said the postponement aims at preventing negative campaigns.

However, Syarif firmly stated that KPK will still take actions against regional heads who committed corruption and will also work to prevent money politics in the upcoming regional elections.

"To prevent money politics, KPK is coordinating with the National Police," Syarif said. (dtc/mfb)
