JAKARTA, GRES.NEWS - Electronic ID card (e-KTP) project corruption has become a hot topic, and it makes people forget about the bribery in PT PAL Indonesia that procured two warships for the Philippines government. The House Deputy Chairman Agus Hermanto encourages law enforcers to resolve the case immediately.

He asserts that law enforcement must be just. "Bribery in PT PAL must be resolved immediately. Let the law enforcement process continues, and we have to support just, transparent, and accountable law enforcement," Agus asserted in the Parliament Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (10/5).

Previously, PT PAL Indonesia built two warships for the Philippines government. The agreement of the ships' procurement in 2014 also involved a conduit company from the US, Ashanti Sales Inc.

The ships procurement project was worth US$86.96 million. PT PAL officials are suspected of making a deal on a cashback with the conduit company from 4.75 percent of the sales profit. The anti-graft commission (KPK) has named the President Director of PT PAL Indonesia, M Firmansah Arifin, as a suspect.

"We have to support not only KPK, but also the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), the police, and prosecutors to reveal the mastermind in the bribery. The investigation must be transparent, complete, and the convicts must receive strict sanctions according to the law," he said.

Agus claimed that the strategic sealift vessel (SSV) warships built by PT PAL should become the pride of Indonesia. Moreover, the ships are the first Indonesian warships that got exported. However, the pride gets tarnished by a corruption case.

Besides the President Director of PT PAL, KPK also named the General Manager Treasury of PT PAL Indonesia, Saiful Anwar, as a suspect. The middleman in the project from the US company Ashanti Sales Inc, Agus Nugroho, also named as a suspect.

KPK asserts they’re still investigating the case. As far as it goes, KPK has questioned 64 witnesses in the case. KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah said KPK is investigating the distribution of the money in the procurement project. (dtc)
