JAKARTA, GRES.NEWS – Two Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators are involved in a bitter conflict. KPK Director of Investigations, Aris Budiman, has reported Novel Baswedan to the police for defamation.
Some criticize that Aris’ real intension is to weaken KPK. However, Jakarta Police Public Relations Chief Argo Yuwono denies the accusation.
"Aris Budiman has said that he does not intend to weaken KPK. Police investigators have been present in KPK since the anti-graft body was established. You shouldn’t expect KPK to always be ‘clean’ from internal conflict," Argo said, to reporters, at the Jakarta Police headquarters, Sunday (3/9).
Aris reported Novel on Wednesday (13/8) over the latter’s email that he claims attacked him personally and professionally. The case is now being investigated by the police.
Aris told House of Representatives members on Tuesday (29/8) that the email claims his appointment broke through procedures within KPK.
"On 14 February 2017, there was an email that attacked me personally. I am upset and feel insulted. The email is saying that I do not have integrity," Aris said in the meeting with the House members.
KPK executives are attempting to ease the conflict and are considering whether to provide legal assistance to Novel. (dtc)
