JAKARTA, GRES.NEWS – Defending Islam peace rally that was organized a few days ago still becomes a hot topic among the public. The rally that demanded law enforcers to detain the Jakarta Incumbent Governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama for committing religious blasphemy has attracted the public attention. Besides a huge mass participating in the rally held on 4th of November (411 had prepared) and 2nd of December 2016 (212 rally), the public also appreciates the police for securing the rally. However, the government has to allocate a great amount of budget to handle the peace rally.
The police stated that the government had to allocate Rp76 billion funds to secure 411 and 212 rally. The statement was delivered in a hearing between the House’s Commission III and National Police Chief Tito Karnavian. One of the House’s Commission III members, Jazilul Fawaid, questioned the police’s expenditures in securing the rallies.
The fund to secure the budget comes from the State Budget (APBN) which means that it belong to the nation, so the public deserves to know how much the state spends to secure the previous rallies.
"Each personnel is provided with facilities, we want to know how much did it spend," Jazilul said at the House of Representatives building, Monday (5/12).
In the last one month, the police have to secure numerous rallies. There were about seven demonstrations, and the biggest were 411 and 212 rallies that were organized some time ago. "The public has to know the average fund spent by the police in securing a massive rally like two days ago," he said.
Responding to the question, National Police Chief Tito stated the police spent a lot of money to secure 411 and 212 rallies. The total money spent by the police reaches Rp76 billion comprising Rp33 billion for 411 rally, and Rp43 billion for 212 rally.
According to him, the police had to spend a plenty of money because they had to deploy troops in large numbers. The police prepared mobile brigade (Brimob) officers from numerous regions in Indonesia to secure the rally that took place in Jakarta.
"There were 20,000 troops in total on 4th of November," Tito said at the House of Representatives building, Monday (5/12).
Meanwhile, the number of police officers who secured the peace rally on 2nd of December reached 27,000 officers. 6,000 troops were guarding the parliament complex from possible treason attempt.
PREPARATION - Besides to secure the rally, the funds were also used for their preparation before the rally and to anticipate any action after the rally finished. The police prepared a week before the rally took place, and they also anticipate any action after the rallies finished in a week.
"We asked the Finance Minister for extra funds, Alhamdulillah they approved to provide Rp90 billion for us," Tito said.
An expert on military, Muradi, also confirmed that it’s reasonable for the police to spend Rp76 billion to secure 411 and 212 rallies. According to him, securing a rally with a great mass requires more funds, most of the money are used by the police to prepare for various situations.
"The police didn’t spend a lot of money on the field, but on the preparation," Muradi said to gres.news, Monday (5/12).
